treat male infertility and nervous disorders, also used
as an aphrodisiac.
Mucuna seeds /Kaunch beej/velvet beej
are high in levodopa (L-DOPA) which
increase levels of dopamine in humans
when consumed. Studies have shown it is
useful in treating Parkinson’s Disease,
sperm count and motility and
testosterone. Other uses in Ayurvedic
medicine include for snake bite.
Mucuna Pruriens have been used in Ayurvedic
medicine for thousands of years to treat infertility and
Parkinson’s Disease. Current testing touts Mucuna as
a natural anti-depressant, stress reliever and to
improve sense of well-being, sleep and energy.

Most trials looking at the effects of Mucuna pruriens on symptoms of Parkinson’s disease or male infertility have used daily doses ranging between 5 and 45 grams of adequately prepared seed powder, corresponding to approximately 200 mg to 1,500 mg of L-DOPA.
