Bay leaves come from a flowering evergreen tree that has glabrous leaves and is native to the Mediterranean region.
Aromatic bay leaves are often used in food preparations to add flavor to dishes. In herbal
medicine, they are used topically in salves, essential oils, or as poultices.
Most commonly, a couple whole leaves are added to pasta sauces, soups, and other recipes, to add flavor while cooking, which are subsequently removed from dishes before serving.
